Thomas M. Irwin - J.D., CPA/PFS, CFP®
Thomas M. Irwin brings to the firm extensive experience and expertise in taxation and estate planning. In addition to being a Certified Financial Planner®, Tom is also an attorney and a Certified Public Accountant, and has earned the Personal Financial Specialist designation.
After graduating from Stetson University in Deland, Florida, with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance, Tom worked for 3M and attended the University of Minnesota Law School, where he graduated with honors. Following law school, he associated with a large Minneapolis law firm as a tax lawyer, and eventually accepted a position with Wilkerson, Guthmann & Johnson, a St. Paul-based public accounting and consulting firm. During his tenure with this organization, Tom was responsible for managing a broad spectrum of clients and businesses, ranging in scope and size from individual tax return preparation to multimillion dollar corporate transactions. He left public accounting after 11 years to establish a tax/trust administration division for a financial planning/investment advisory firm. In this role for nine years, Tom served as the tax advisor for over 400 individuals, including overseeing their tax planning and preparing their tax returns. He also administered many trusts, estates, and charitable accounts and served as the firm's primary estate planning consultant.
Drawing on his multidisciplinary experience in the legal, tax, accounting, and financial planning fields, Tom advises individuals and businesses on a range of financial matters, including personal financial planning, trust and estate administration, investment strategies, income taxation, estate planning, tax compliance, IRS representation, and business transactions.
Tom is a native of Northfield, Minnesota, and now resides in West St. Paul with his wife, June, and their daughter.
